EHS welcomes Chelsea Pensioners who spend the morning at school
Esher welcomed two Chelsea Pensioners Alan Rutter who served in the Infantry and Ray Pearson who served in the Royal Engineers.
They attended a Year 8 assembly where they answered questions from students who are studying warfare over time in history. During this assembly they shared their reasons for joining the army, the training, experiences as a soldier and life as a Chelsea Pensioner today. Two Year 8 students Beatrice and Oliver were natural interviewers and in all, students and the pensioners alike really enjoyed the experience.
Following the assembly they enjoyed a tour of the school led by Year 8 students finishing up enjoying tea and cake made by ISB students.
Alan commented, “I really enjoyed meeting the students who were very polite. They showed real interest and were happy to see us which made us feel very welcome.”
